The European identity wallet and the AMLR are coming. What changes for your verifications

Sanno

Insurance

Know who takes out the policy, who files the claim and who gets paid.

Underwriting, filing a claim and settlement all happen remotely, often without ever seeing the person. Sanno establishes their identity, their address and the source of their funds from photos taken live, analysed in the European Union.

Four moments in the life of a policy

An insurance policy is verified at the start, but also each time money comes in or goes out. The risk is not the same at these four moments.

  1. At remote underwriting

The risk A policy taken out under someone else's identity, or on behalf of a third party who stays invisible.

The control Identity document read front and back, validity dates checked, selfie compared with the photo on the document, movement challenge verified frame by frame, declared name and date of birth compared with those on the document.

  2. When money is paid into the policy

The risk A payment whose source you could not explain if you were asked.

The control A short, closed source of funds questionnaire, documents requested according to the answers, photographed live then read, risky answers flagged.

  3. When a claim is filed

The risk A claim filed by someone who is not the policyholder, at an address that does not match the policy.

The control The same identity verification as at underwriting, and a proof of address photographed live, read, compared with the declared address, with a match score.

  4. At settlement, surrender or payment to the beneficiary

The risk A payment sent to the wrong person, and a file that does not let you account for it afterwards.

The control Identity verification of the beneficiary before the payment, a result carrying stable reason codes, a chained audit log of every action by your team.

What you need to know about the policyholder, the claimant and the beneficiary

Identity, each time it matters

Identity card and passport read front and back: printed fields, MRZ and its check digits, validity dates, specimen wording. Selfie compared with the photo on the document. Driving licence and residence permit: the capture is accepted, the verification is left to your team.

The address of the insured risk

Proof of address photographed live, read, compared with the declared address, with a match score whose threshold you set. The age of the document is checked: a proof that is too old is flagged.

The source of the funds paid in

On savings policies as on large payments: a short, closed questionnaire, then documents requested according to the answers, photographed and read. Political exposure is recorded as the person declares it.

Files that repeat

The same identity document presented on two files is flagged for review.

For your policyholders

  • A short flow, designed for the phone, guided step by step.
  • A mediocre photo never gets anyone declined: it leads to a retake.
  • On a computer, a QR code moves the verification to the phone.
  • The same flow to take out a policy, file a claim or be paid.

For your underwriting and claims teams

  • The files to review with the photos, the data read, the reasons and the address match score.
  • Distinct roles: owner, administrator, compliance analyst, read-only.
  • A chained audit log, useful the day a settlement is disputed.
  • REST API and signed webhooks: the result and the decision arrive in your management system.

What remains your responsibility

Sanno verifies individuals. No business verification for your corporate clients, no screening against sanctions and politically exposed person lists, no ongoing monitoring: political exposure is only recorded as the person declares it. Tell us what you are missing.
