The European identity wallet and the AMLR are coming. What changes for your verifications

Sanno

You have been verified

A company asked you to verify your identity. Here is what happened.

This page is written for you, not for our clients. It explains what we did with your photos, what we keep of them, and who to go to.

What we looked at

We do not look into your past, we search no police records, and we do not grade your appearance.

  • The information printed on your identity document, and the band of characters at the bottom of it.
  • Whether the photo on your document and your selfie show the same person.
  • Whether the movements we asked you for were really made in front of the lens, at the moment of the capture.
  • Whether the proof of address you photographed carries your name and the address given, where one was asked for.

Who decided

Not us. We hand the company that asked you for the verification what we read, the discrepancies found and our reasons. It is their team that decides whether to accept your file, ask you for a new photo or turn it down.

Been asked to start again?

This is not a refusal. A blurred photo, a reflection on the document, a frame that cuts off an edge: the document cannot be read, and a new photo is needed. One useful tip: indirect light, no flash on a laminated document, and the document laid flat rather than held in your hand.

What becomes of your photos

  • They are encrypted as soon as they arrive, and tied to your verification alone.
  • They are decrypted only in memory, for the time of an analysis or an authorised viewing.
  • They stay on servers located in the European Union, and are sent to no outside service.
  • How long they are kept is set by the company that verified you, within the limits the law sets for it — often five years, under anti-money laundering rules.

Your rights, and who to send them to

The company that asked you for this verification is responsible for your data: it is to them that you should send your requests for access, correction or erasure. They told you how to reach them at the start of the verification. If you write to us directly, we pass your request on and we tell you that we have.
